About Us

Welcome to WestCountryWheekies. We are based in a small town in Devon.

We have been proud piggy owners since Feburary 2005. Starting with Chestnut and Sprout. Two boars bought from a small guinea pig holding deep in the countryside - that was an adventure and a half. Since then we have been hooked. Each one of them has their own personality and likes and dislikes, they are easy to look after and are a joy to care for, taking up little space, unless of course you build a large cage, like we have! Over the years we have had have had many guinea pigs. We started breeding them in April 2009 and our piggies have had  many healthy litters, many of them having gone on to their new homes, some have stayed with us. We breed for a hobby and are responsible owners. However we do sell some in order to make sure we have enough space for all of them.We are always doing a lot of reading around the subjects and many note books full of notes. As well as a fair amount of experience.  We keep and records all of our guinea pigs data. We always find good homes for the piglets and even keep a couple ourselves! We always ensure we have enough room and are more than willing to keep them if we cannot sell them (if we had enough space we would keep them all!)

We love our piggies and they love us.

We hope you enjoy meeting our piggies!

 Xoxo

FAQs:

What do you feed your piggies?
  • We feed our guinea pigs a mixture of dry food (Harringtons). It is all the same, so they don't just pick out the things they like - thus gain more nutrition. We also feed them hay, Readigrass and fresh fruit and veggies which vary from pepper to carrots to broccoli to kale. They also go out and get fresh grass when the weather is good enough (English weather haha!)
Where do your piggies live?
  •  Our guinea pigs lived inside in C&C and indoor cages, however we now have them in a shed with custom built cages. See our Cage Setup Page for more details!
How often do you breed your guinea pigs?
  • We breed our females twice in their life time before retiring them we leave around 18 months to 2 years between each litter. We often breed to make the most interesting fur types and colour combination, however we are careful with what breeds we breed together as some breeds cannot be bred with others. When breeding our females we make sure they are around 6 months old and weight over 700g as pregnancy puts a great strain on their bodies. We have very few tragedies with our guineas pregnancies however they are more common than you think so you must be careful and prepared to deal with any emergency care your wheekies require.
