UPDATE - Births, Deaths and Life!

It's been quite a while since I updated the blog, as school has taken priority:( however here is an update and quite a bit has happened since we were last here...

Phoenix & Multi :(

Sadly we lost two of our oldest Guinea Pigs and our first ever breeding girls. They both died within a relatively short apart from one another. It is very sad and we miss them dearly and they both had great characters but they will have a great legacy here at West Country Wheekies.

Births :)

On to a more positive note we have had two new litters born!

The first was Peppa's second litter with Bentley, therefore they have half Lunky genetics. Peppa had two healthy  piglets, one sow (Nimbus) and one boar (Sirrus) who we decided to keep to help with our attempts to breed Lunkaryas. They are both slightly long haired with Nimbus having quite a dense wirey coat, like a long haired teddy and Sirrus having a some what softer, shorter coat.

Nutella gave birth to her first litter, also fathered by Bentley. This litter consisted of three little sows, all very different. We have named them Honey, Marmalade and Peanut (who is tiny compared to the other two and always has been!) Peanut is quite a lot like a Lunkarya with a curly tummy and quite tight fur curls. The other two have lots of rosettes in their fur, and they are similarly placed to Lunkarya rosettes.

We also got our new Skinny Pig, Piglet, who is very funny and bossy! (See our new Skinny Pig page for more!)

We have been doing some more to the shed and the wire we had in before was scratching our arms something chronic when cleaning and feed. We have now replaced this with a better wire that is a lot more stable and safe!

Finally we have had our lunky boar in with two of our lunky ladies so hopefully (fingers crossed!) we will have one or two litters of Lunkarya piglets in 2015! We will keep you updated and keep an eye on our Lunkarya page for more.

Well I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and have a happy 2015!

Piggie love

We had an impromptu photo shoot when having some cuddle time today and I thought I would share some photos of a couple of our lovely girlies, including a Shelly, our new 10 week old piggy. We need someone gentle to keep our Luna company and our other girls were just to bossy! Shelly is just perfect for her! They had lots of snuggles and yummy veggies. At first neither of them would eat, but then Shelly wanted some celery. Even though there were several pieces of celery, Luna had to have Shelley's piece!

We also had a lot of hiding... under one another!! ==>

Our new Lunkarya's!

Today was the day the (long awaited!) Lunkarya sows arrived from their old home in Wales to live with us here in Devon! I know, we always seem to be getting new Guinea Pigs, however we are practically living in our new Guinea Pig Shed (update coming soon!) all day, everyday at the moment, fussing all the pigs, and we love it! Our little group of three guinea pigs has grown so quickly in the last year... The line these lovely girls are breed from came from Dawbell Stud near Gatwick. This is the photo sent to us by the breeder, we haven't taken our own yet as we thought we would let them settle in first, but they should be up on our Lunkarya page at some point tomorrow! We have decided to name our Lunkarya's after cars (super cars mainly!) So introducing Porscha (right) & Mercedes(left). Anyway, we are so happy with them and will keep you updated on them!

I am a really bad blogger!

So since I last updated the site a lot has happened! I know (slaps wrists!) I am bad at blogging!

Where to start...

Firstly Mango had her first litter sired by our lovely boar of the moment Finnegan. They had a lovely litter of three in July (1 sow and 2 boars). All three lovely piglets  have gone to their new homes. Sugar (the sow) went to keep another little pig girl company and our two lovely boy now named Chewbacca (Chewy) & Frodo have gone to live with Lucy in their new home together.  You can follow them on their own blog! Go check it out!

If you look at Popcorn and Finnegan their markings and colourings are almost identical, very awesome but a bit spooky! We've never had any thing like that before.

Sow (Sugar)

Boar 2 (Popcorn)

Boar1 (Caramel)

Secondly both Harper and Horace have left us! Harper went to a family who had a lonely little 10 week old sow in need of some company after her sister had to be put down:( We love it when our guinea pigs make people happy like they make us happy so we were so pleased that we were able to help!

Thirdly our pigs have new digs! We have moved them in to a shed with custom-made cages courtesy of Mr. WestCountryWheekies. However I will do a separate blog post on this so watch this space!

Lastly we bought a new little pig that belongs to our cousins who live in France but will stay with us for the duration of her life. She is called Nutella or Nutty for short! We haven't taken any photos yet, SHOCK HORROR I know! We will post a photo in the next couple of days, so keep your eyes peeled!

All that's left to say is keep an eye out on our Lunkarya page as we are waiting on some new sows to join our growing group! Excited! Lots happening here so will hopefully post a bit more often!

XOXO

Baby pigs for sale!

Lovely Marzipan gave birth to her 2 beautiful babies on Sunday 8th of June (4ish weeks ago!) They are now for sale. We have one little boy (nicknamed Horace) and one little girl (nicknamed Harper) both are lovely healthy weights are we think they are going to be long haired! Ideally we would like to put the two in with a young guinea pig of the same sex! Email us @ westcountrywheekies@yahoo.co.uk for more info!

Another new arrival

Guinea pigs seem to be like buses, you can never find the ones you want (we want them all but we have to be selective other wise we would have hundreds!) and then all of a sudden there are several in one go!

So let me introduce Bentley....
He is a pure Lunkarya guinea pig, the first of many (hopefully)! He is 8 weeks old and currently living happily with Mackenzie Mouse! We are looking forward to seeing how his coat turns out, at the moment it's really thick, curly and soft - he is so lovely and well natured!
Keep watching for more Lunky news in the future!

Blue update: Blue is settling in very well today, she is so well behaved, she just sits and lets you cuddle her!

New setup update: we have now secured a shed to move the guinea pigs into - complete with light! So all we need to do now is insulate and build the pens! We are all very excited!

New Arrival!

Meet Luna!
Luna is a Silky Coronet guinea pig. Her breeder called her slate blue however we think she might be silver or lilac. She is pedigree and came from a litter of 2 females. She is the best behaved piggy we have ever had! Very cuddly and quiet.
